Faith In Real life Experienced Daily Utilizing Prayer

Youth Coordinator Dahlia Branigan

This year the St. Kevin’s Youth & Family Ministry welcomes all children currently in Sr.
Kindergarten to Gr. 6 to our Vacation Bible School; Rome, Paul and the Underground Church.

It will be an amazing experience that will help them discover what it was like to be one of the very first Christians. Imagine what it was like to live and work in what was once considered the center of the world...the busy metropolis of Rome. They’ll hear the buzz about the teacher Paul, who was under house arrest. They might even work with people who followed countless gods-- and very few who followed only one God. Perhaps they’ll see those who followed Jesus, a carpenter who died and came back to life proclaiming he was the son of God.

Our program will immerse our children in Bible-times culture, helping them to explore what it might have been to like to live as the church was just beginning. They’ll experience new traditions, taste new foods, try new arts and crafts projects, and discover that God’s love is the most powerful gift, saving us from our sins.
Each day will start with Extollo where we start with prayer and they’ll get ready to step back in time with their “travel itinerary” (daily schedule) and learn of the Bible Point for the day. In groups they will visit Paul while he’s under house arrest and sneak away to the hidden Underground Church. They’ll try their hand at Apprenticeship Games, explore the Marketplace and make amazing crafts, be dazzled with science experiments and sample tasty snacks.

Shopkeepers will chat with them about the latest news of the “strange Christ Followers. Finally, they will gather to sing and move to music that moves the spirit.

VBS will take place this year at St. Kevin’s Catholic Elementary School the week of August 14th to 18th from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Registration forms are online on the church’s website under the “Youth” tab, in the foyer at the Youth & Family display table and the church office.

Completed forms may be scanned and sent to stkevinsyouthministry1@gmail.com , dropped off the church office or placed in the collection plate at Mass. Please use one registration form per child and feel free to bring a friend. Don’t wait for the last minute to register as space is limited. Our program is once again free of charge with donations to the St. Kevin’s Food Bank so all are welcome. In order to help with supplies and needs of the program, there is a “Wish List” of items needed. Please be generous as we would like to make this experience a lasting one.

We ask that you pray for our volunteers as they train and prepare for VBS 2017 and for all the children that will be participating in the program. We pray that we are able to change their, minds and hearts with the power of the Holy Spirit and in turn change our communities, both locally and globally.
